I designed this illustration series to honour the world-famous and excellent Euskal culinary scene. However, besides the Micheline starred restaurants, the most appealing gastronomy sites in the Basque Country unquestionably are the bars. Whether they are a local or a visitor, one will beyond doubt enjoy the widely served snacks called pintxo(s). These are cooked, baked, pickled, etc. delicacies, traditionally served on top of a piece of bread. As support, they conventionally are pierced by a toothpick or a skewer, hence the name - pintxo, which means 'spike' in English.
 
I used bright and bold colours to represent the diversity of this emerging segment of Basque cooking.
